I am starting 2019 by doing my first entry of the year!
Just a little history, I kept a diary since grade school. I began writing formally in high school for the school’s newspaper which I eventually became the editor-in-chief during my senior year. All through college, I maintained a private blog but my entries got fewer when I started working. In 2017, I had a eureka moment of going back to blogging with an idea of creating content posted publicly. But life happened and the idea was shelved indefinitely until I picked it up again when I was thinking of a birthday gift for myself last November. After studying the basic steps, I took the plunge and purchased my own web hosting in Siteground, installed WordPress, and the rest is in progress. I am still in the process of getting the hang of it as everything is new to me, learning and doing one step at a time.
Personally, I pushed through with having my own website as it makes me feel having a space of my own where I can freely express my thoughts. It is like a house that I built myself, with a title under my name. It is gonna be a home where my dreams are manifested.
The recurrent themes that will also be the major categories of my blog posts are travel, occupations and therapy.
Travel– I am a Traveling Occupational Therapist. I travel for work weekly but I also travel for leisure at least quarterly. Well if I have one luxury in this world that I don’t regret maintaining, it’s traveling. In OT terms, I seek for the sensory input that traveling provides. Aside from being my energy booster, it makes the cultured historian in me happy. I am going to write from a therapist’s point of view. We have running notes every therapy session might as well have travel notes after every trip.
Occupations– The first words that commonly come to your mind are jobs or work. But in Occupational Therapy, occupations are meaningful activities that we do in our daily lives. So for a child, play is a major occupation. For us adults, it can be communication, shopping and or financial management. I will discuss the OT terms further down the road as I write about them. I am thinking of skin care routine for self-care and maybe some Korean drama or restaurant reviews here and there.
Therapy- As an OT, I update my knowledge by attending continuing professional education. I will write about the latest trends in evaluation and intervention and those that are being utilized in clinical settings. Maybe some toy analysis as well.
As in every home, there will be rooms for improvement especially in my writing style and customizing my site. But having a growth mindset, the process is also the goal in itself.
May your dreams come true!
Happy 2019!
